Last week , i.e 19th of Feb, my Chinese friends celebrated their New Year. Chinese New Year also known as the Spring festival happens to be the most important celebration for families in China. This year most of them had a long holiday, from Feb 18th to 24. I know I am a bit late but today happens to be the 6th (which Chinese regard as their lucky number)and last day of their celebrations. I made Honey and Sesame chicken as a token of good wishes for all my dear Chinese friends. It is not an authentic Chinese recipe, but it is my version of the exotic dish. The sticky, sweet and sour chicken legs are a delicacy and can be served during parties and celebrations. The best part of this dish is it can be prepared in advance and reheated just before serving.

Recipe: Honey and Sesame Chicken legs

1.Marinate:

  • 8 chicken legs
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp. cornflour
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. red chili paste
  • 1 tbsp. or less red chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Marinate the chicken with the rest of the ingredients and deep fry. Remove on a kitchen towel and keep separately.

2. In a pan heat a tablespoon of oil and add the following one after another:

  • 1 tbsp. garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp. chopped spring onion whites
  • 2 tsp. tomato ketchup
  • 2 tsp. red chili sauce
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp. honey
  • fried chicken
  • 2 tbsp. chopped spring onion greens
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds

Mix well and remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onion greens before you serve. Enjoy with friends and family.

I am taking these delicious chicken legs to party with my FF friends. Please do join me at Angie’s place The Novice Gardener

Thank you Tasneem☺Please do try it. The sesame adds to the crunch factor. I also have the Lemon honey glazed chicken that turns out equally yummy and it is baked. This particular recipe is deep fried because that’s how the Chinese like it 😉
