Palm fruit also known as Sugar palm or Ice Apple grows on the Palmyra plant.Palmyra palm tree is the national tree of Cambodia and Borassus flabellifer is the Latin name. It grows in the suitable climate of Southeast Asian countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
This delicious fruit is delicately extracted from its shell and sold in baskets covered with leaves so as to retain its moisture and freshness.
The fruit has a tender jelly like sweet flesh with sweet water inside it.It is available in summer and is enjoyed by preparing different types of drinks,desserts, pancakes and dishes prepared from the nutritious pulp.

Recipe for Palm fruit Smoothie
- 4-5 Palm fruits
- 1 cup milk
- Sugar to taste
- 1/4 tsp. Cardamom powder
- Ice cubes
Blend all these together and pour into a tall glass. Serve chilled.
