Aromas and flavors make food so interesting. Just imagine if we woke up one day to find there was only one flavor left in the world, how boring would life be. But thankfully the world is full of flavors loved by some and disliked by some others. Every one in my little family has their own favorites when it comes to flavors. My hubby is a coffee lover, my son a total mangoholic and my daughter like most girls is fond of chocolate.( My parents are butterscotch fans and have quite unceremoniously transferred their butterscotch genes into me)
Whenever I go to the supermarket anything and everything related to these flavors seem to involuntarily jump off the shelves, unmindful of the meticulously planned shopping list on my hand, right into the cart and stealthily steer their way to the bill counter, even while I am contemplating ‘to bey buy or not to bey buy’. Then take their triumphant ride home, to find a comfortable place in my pantry, which is already full of Syrups sauces spreads, Jams jellies juices, Puddings pastes pastries and the kinds, in flavors my family loves ❤ ❤ ❤
On one such shopping spree, I ended with a Cappuccino Custard powder in my hand( remember coffee is my hubby’s fav). Cappuccino Custard for God’s sake!!!
Day 1: It stood proudly on my kitchen table ( I didn’t keep it in for fear of Out of Sight Out of Mind)
Day 2: I kept thinking of what I could make with it.
Day 3: It still stood there.
Day 4: I was sure there must be a dessert recipe printed on the pack.
Day 5: Since I didn’t come up with anything, I picked the pack to see if there was some recipe printed on the back. The suggestions on it were disappointing. They simply said’ serve the custard with fruits or jelly’.
Cappuccino and Fruits ????
No.Please!!!!
I hear peals of laughter and giggles coming from the living room. That’s my hubby and my little girl sharing a joke.A flash of lightning λ and a ≈ brain wave ≈ later it occurred to me that cappuccino would team up very well with chocolate 😉
How about Chocolate balls in cappuccino custard….
With an idea forming in my mind, I raided my pantry and found cocoa powder and drinking chocolate. I needed at least one more binding ingredient to make the chocolate balls…..
This time I looked into my freezer and lo and behold, a packet of cottage cheese was sitting right there, cozying up with my chickens. With the ingredients ready, I was all set to make a dessert for my husband to celebrate his………..(I can’t reveal because he wouldn’t want me to). I ended up making two desserts. The other one will feature in my next post.
Chocolate balls in Cappuccino Custard
Custard:
- 25 g Cappuccino Custard powder
- 500 ml milk
- 75 g sugar
- 3-4 tbsp. condensed milk
Mix the custard powder in 1/2 a cup of milk. Heat the remaining milk and add sugar to it. Bring it to a boil. Slowly add the custard paste to the milk, stirring all the while.Cook on medium flame for a couple of minutes more. Add condensed milk and remove from heat.
Tip: If you cannot get hold of this custard powder, substitute it with cornflour and 1 tsp. instant coffee powder.
Chocolate balls:
- 200 g cottage cheese
- 1-2 tbsp. drinking chocolate powder
- 2 tsp. cocoa powder
- 1 tsp. cornflour
Mash the cottage cheese and add all the ingredients.Make balls with this mixture. If they tend to fall apart add a little more of cornflour and make balls again with wet hands.
Gently add the chocolate balls to the custard and cook for a couple of minutes. Be gentle with them, otherwise they make break.
Spoon into individual glasses or bowls. Chill . Drizzle a bit of chocolate sauce before you serve.
Enjoy…..
I am planning to take this dessert to Angie’s Fiesta Friday 35 which she is co hosting with two lovely blogging friends Prudy and Naina. Come along and join the fun……
